Chapter 1

At eighteen, my younger sister was left in a vegetative state after a car accident. The system approached me and promised to wake her immediately if I entered a series of infinite dungeons and completed its quests. I agreed. Before I left, I wanted to find someone to protect my sister, who was naturally frail. The three Lane brothers stepped forward on their own, knelt before me, and swore they would take good care of Pearly. I remembered how attentive they had been to her in the past, so I entrusted them with the internationally renowned Chase Group and gave them a warning. “Until I return, your only task is to keep Pearly happy. If any of you dare make her shed even a single tear…” I left the rest unsaid, but everyone around us went pale and lowered their heads even further. I fought my way through the infinite dungeons for six years and finally cleared every quest. When I returned to the real world, I immediately checked my sister’s location. But the tracking system showed that Pearly was in the slums! Chapter 1 I rubbed the location tracker on my watch and smiled. Six years had passed, yet my little sister was still as kind as ever. Just as before, she spent every spare moment bringing supplies and staff to orphanages and slums. Since we had not seen each other in six years, I wanted to surprise her. That was why I did not head straight to her location. Instead, I called Fabian Lane. He answered after three rings, his voice arrogant. "Who is this?" I raised an eyebrow. As far as I remembered, the Lane family was only a third-rate family. They were not even important enough to do business with Chase Group. The three Lane brothers were supposedly Pearly's childhood friends, but in reality, the Lane family had sent them over to curry favor with Chase Group. When we first met, the three brothers were timid and nervous. Fabian, in particular, had worn a fawning smile almost every day. Six years had passed. It seemed power and wealth had treated him well. There was no trace of his former submissiveness in his voice. I spoke coldly. "I'm at Entrance A of the Chase Tower. Send a car to pick me up within three minutes." The other end fell silent. Then I heard a burst of frantic clattering. A moment later, he asked cautiously. "Kelly? You're—you're back?" I hummed in reply. The call ended abruptly, and he sent me a text. [Kelly, please wait. I'll drive over to pick you up right away.] The car arrived three minutes later. Fabian got out of the driver's seat. Finn Lane, his younger brother, and Freddy Lane, the youngest, followed him. Once they were out of the car, the three brothers turned around, bent down, and gently led a young woman out. Fabian smiled as he walked toward me. "Kelly, let me introduce you. This is Cheryl Warren. She's currently interning at Chase Group." I ignored the newcomer and looked over the three brothers with a frown. "All three of you are here? Does that mean you let Pearly go to the slums alone to make the donation? "What did I tell you before I left? No matter when or where, at least one of you must stay by Pearly's side to keep her safe!" The smiles on the three men’s faces froze. Cheryl bit her lip and spoke in a weak voice. "Even if you're older and her sister, you can't keep using that to bully the Lane brothers! "You demanded that they pick you up within three minutes, then scolded them without even finding out what happened. "They're the people in charge of Chase Group. Don't you think you're being a little shameless?" Her words were extremely offensive, yet none of the three Lane brothers tried to stop her. Their expressions suggested that they even agreed with her. My heart sank when I saw their reaction. "Now, come with me to pick up Pearly." I stepped toward the car, but someone reached out to block my way. Cheryl looked at me with a provocative smile. "On the way here, Fab and the others told me all about you. You're Pearly Chase's sister, right? She made a mistake and was sent to live in the slums for three years as punishment. "Three years aren't up yet. There are still six days left, so you can't go pick her up!" I stopped and repeated her words. "The slums. Punishment. Three years?" Then I raised my eyes and stared straight at the three Lane brothers. "Is what she just said true?" Chapter 2 Fabian avoided my gaze, while Freddy remained silent. Finn was the last to speak. He clicked his tongue impatiently and said, "Fabian, Freddy, there's no point hiding it anymore. Just tell her the truth!" He looked at me with a hint of excitement in his eyes. "Yes, Pearly was sent to the slums by us. Who told her to be so spoiled and arrogant, and deliberately get people to bully Cheryl? "Kelly, you entrusted her to us, so of course we had to teach her a proper lesson. “She looked down on Cheryl because she came from the slums and called her a filthy pauper. So, we made her experience life at the bottom.” The moment he finished speaking, he went flying. Cheryl stared blankly for a moment before screaming. "Are you insane? How dare you hit Finn? Are you trying to make an enemy of all of Chase Group?" I lowered my foot and had no interest in arguing with her. I held out my hand toward Fabian. "The car keys." Fabian looked deeply displeased. "Kelly, what you just did was a little excessive. Finn was only telling the truth." Freddy helped Finn, who was spitting blood, to his feet. Anger blazed in his eyes. "Kelly Chase, do you still think you're the CEO who used to have absolute control over Chase Group? "We're the ones truly in charge of Chase Group now. Aren't you afraid we'll turn against you after what you did to our brother?" I ignored everyone's angry shouting and simply stared at Fabian. "The car keys!" He remained silent for a long moment. Then he suddenly smiled and placed the keys in my palm. Before I got into the car, he spoke with absolute confidence. "Kelly, you've been gone for six whole years. Chase Group has long since changed. "I'll overlook what happened this time. You just got back and didn't know the situation, so you made a foolish mistake. "Once you pick up Pearly, have her apologize to Cheryl and earn her forgiveness. Then we'll have a proper talk." I did not reply. I left them with nothing but a cloud of exhaust. I pressed the accelerator all the way down as I drove, my fury burning through my reason. When I reached my destination, I got out of the car. Garbage and filthy water had mixed together all around me, giving off a revolting stench. Several ill-intentioned men looked me up and down without restraint. I walked up to a doorway covered by a tattered curtain. A weak cough came from inside. I stopped midstep, and my hand began to tremble uncontrollably. “I once faced monsters more than twenty meters tall inside the dungeons, yet I had never been as afraid as I was now.” The next second, a woman’s pleading sobs came from inside. "Please, don't take it. It's the last thing my sister left me. "I—I’ll find work and borrow money. As long as you don't take my sister's pendant, I'll do anything you ask..." A man began cursing and beating her. "Let go, you filthy bitch! You actually hid something this valuable from me. I think you..." "Ahhh!" Before he could finish, I kicked him out of the room. He crashed through a trail of pots and pans before becoming embedded in the wall. The woman on the floor was covered in bruises, yet she still clutched the pendant protectively against her chest. She seemed unable to process what had just happened and stared up at me in a daze. "Pearly, d-did you come to take me to Heaven?" Tears streamed down her face. "Pearly, I missed you so much. I'm sorry. I was still useless. I couldn't protect the Chase Group you left behind." I crouched down and carefully pulled her into my arms. I held back my tears and comforted her softly. "It's all right now. It's all right, Pearly. It's your sister. I'm back. We're not going to Heaven. I’m going to deal with the people who hurt you and send them to Hell instead.” My gaze swept over the man who slid to the floor and went limp. His eyes widened in terror as he tried to escape, but he had no strength left. "Please, don't kill me! It—it was Cheryl Warren! She paid me to torture this woman!" I pulled Pearly against me and covered her ears. Then I called a private number. "Slums. The third house under the locust tree. John Watson. Take care of it cleanly. Mail him to Cheryl Warren." Chapter 3 I carried Pearly straight to the hillside villa. The best medical team I hired for Pearly was already there, along with the most advanced medical equipment. However, when I reached the villa and pushed open the door, I found the place filled with noise and commotion. The moment I stepped inside, the lively atmosphere came to a complete stop. Everyone looked over at me, each wearing a different expression. One sweep of my gaze revealed the company’s shareholders, CEOs of companies we worked with regularly, and even members of several prominent families. Fabian walked over with a wineglass in hand and a smile on his face. He glanced at my sister in my arms and spoke condescendingly. “Pearly, you’ve spent almost three years in the slums. You must realize your mistake by now, right? “Come on, apologize to Cheryl, so you won’t have to spend the remaining six days there.” The person in my arms trembled and instinctively tried to climb down to apologize, but I held her in place. I looked up at Fabian, fury blazing in my eyes. “When did you start mistaking a little borrowed power for your own?” Fabian clenched his fists, his face turning red with anger. “Kelly Chase, you...” Someone placed a hand on his shoulder. “Fabian, calm down.” Once Freddy had calmed him, he turned to me with a refined smile. “Kelly, isn’t it a little too early to decide who holds the real power?” He turned around and gestured toward everyone in the room. “Perfect timing. The company’s major shareholders with a voice in its affairs are all here, along with our long-term business partners. “Why don’t we let them judge whether you, the Chase Group CEO who has been absent for six years, still have the right to remain in this position?” I glanced at the trembling person in my arms and suppressed my anger. “Call the villa’s medical team first. Pearly needs treatment.” No one moved. Instead, Cheryl slowly stepped forward. “Kelly, I’ve always been in poor health. After Pearly pushed me down the stairs, Freddy decided to give me that medical team. “My mother happened to fall ill, so I sent them to the countryside to treat her. That means there aren’t any doctors in the villa right now! “Oh, right. The medical equipment upstairs was taking up too much space, so I sold it all for scrap.” I turned to Freddy and demanded. “How dare you? Those things were what kept Pearly alive!” He did not seem bothered. “Kelly, you’re making a mountain out of a molehill. You’ve spoiled Pearly too much, which is why she became so lawless. “Look at her now. We followed Cheryl’s suggestion and sent Pearly to the slums for three years, and she’s perfectly fine, isn’t she?” I lowered my head and looked at the scars crisscrossing my sister’s body. “Perfectly fine? You think Pearly looks perfectly fine now?” The three brothers glanced at her and seemed completely unconcerned. “They’re only a few minor scars. She can have surgery to remove them later. It’s not as if we’ll reject her because of them. “But let’s make this clear. Cheryl is the only woman we love. Even if Pearly marries into the family, she can only be our mistress.” Fury surged through my chest, and their shamelessness made me laugh. “Your mistress...?” I repeated those two words, finding them utterly ridiculous. They were only three nobodies who benefited from Pearly’s kindness. The moment they gained a little power, they started acting as if they owned the world. I raised my head and swept my gaze around the room before speaking. “Isn’t today’s gathering meant to vote for a new CEO? Come on. The sooner we start, the sooner we can finish.” Finn emerged while clutching his stomach. His face was pale, but he wore a sinister smile. “That’s my Kelly, as bold as ever. I hope you can remain this proud later.” He looked around the room and spoke smugly. “Everyone, the three of us have already met with the heads of the Sterling, Watson, and Farr families. “The bidding conference three days from now will determine Chase Group’s fate for the second time. The outcome is in your hands.” The moment he finished speaking, the people who still looked hesitant broke into delighted smiles. After all, the three families had risen rapidly in recent years. If Chase Group secured a partnership with even one of them, it would reach new heights. The hastily arranged shareholder vote began. There were nine shareholders in total. Fabian received all nine votes, while I received none. Once the results were announced, the shareholders avoided my gaze. “Miss Chase, please don’t hold it against us. We had to stand with the person who could protect our interests. Mr. Lane has led Chase Group well during your six-year absence.” “Exactly, Miss Chase. Take my advice: a smart person knows when to read the room. Sometimes, you have to swallow your pride and lower your head!” Cheryl laughed beside him. “Oh, please! You demanded a car within three minutes and started hitting people. I thought you were supposed to be some big shot, Kelly! “Turns out you’re nothing but a pathetic loser with nowhere to go! Pearly finally moved. She suddenly lunged forward and charged at Cheryl. “Don’t you dare talk about my sister like that!” The three Lane brothers instinctively shielded Cheryl and reached out to push her away. “Pearly, you’re starting to act crazy again. Was the last lesson not enough...?” Before they could finish, I stepped forward and slapped each of them across the face. “The vote is over. You can leave now!” Cheryl poked her head out from behind the three men. “Oh, but Fab gave me this villa!” I turned to look at Fabian. This was the eighteenth-birthday gift I gave my sister. How dare he? When our eyes met, he smiled smugly. “Kelly, do you see how things stand now? At the bidding conference three days from now, I’ll lead Chase Group to even greater heights. “If you’re willing to apologize now, I might give you a low-level position. That way, you won’t have to worry about finding a job elsewhere!” I looked around the villa. Compared with my memories, the entire layout had been altered beyond recognition. Fine. Something already tainted wasn't worth keeping. I picked up my sister and turned to leave. “Then we’ll see who comes out on top in three days!” Chapter 4 I left the villa and made a phone call. Ten minutes later, a fully equipped medical van pulled over by the roadside. One of the people inside bowed his head. “Boss.” I placed my sister, who had fainted from the emotional shock, on the bed. “Take her to the hospital.” For the next two days, I stayed at the hospital with my insecure sister. During that time, Finn called her and angrily demanded. “Pearly, how shameless can you be? You actually used a dummy to scare Cheryl! “Get over here and apologize to Cheryl within half an hour. Otherwise, you know what will happen.” My expression darkened. I took the phone and hung up. The next day, my sister, who had been listless for a long time, finally acted spoiled with me. “Sis, I want the chicken pot pie from that diner in Westside.” I nodded. “Okay. I’ll send someone to buy them.” My sister shook her head and looked at me. “No. I want you to buy them yourself.” I froze. I looked down at her for three seconds, then turned my gaze away before she could grow anxious. “Okay. I’ll go.” The moment I left the hospital room, I spoke sternly to the bodyguards on either side of the door. “Protect Pearly. Don’t let anyone near her.” However, I never expected to receive a phone call just after buying the pot pie. “Miss Chase, Miss Pearly is missing. She said she wanted some fresh air, then told us she was going to the restroom. But she never came back out. “We sent someone inside and discovered that there was no one in the restroom at all...” I lowered my eyes and replied: “I understand.” After hanging up, I floored the accelerator and drove toward the bidding conference. I remembered the threats from the three Lane brothers and the determination in Pearly’s eyes the night before. I knew exactly what she planned to do. When I reached the venue and walked into the lobby, I saw my sister standing in the middle of the crowd, drenched from head to toe and trembling. The three Lane brothers stood protectively in front of Cheryl, relentlessly hurling accusations at my sister. I walked over, took off my coat, and draped it over her shoulders. Across from me, Fabian frowned. “Kelly, out of respect for our past relationship, we’ve already been more than polite to you. “But Pearly went too far this time. She actually used a dummy to scare Cheryl. She has to be punished.” I turned toward them and asked with a laugh. “Who told you it was a dummy?” The entire ballroom fell silent, and Fabian’s face turned pale. In the silence, Finn sneered. “Seriously? Kelly, are you trying to scare us with that? Do you really think we’re three-year-olds? “You’re actually claiming that pile of debris is a real person? Are you going to tell us next that the heads of the three major families are your friends?” I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. “They’re not my friends.” Before he could celebrate, I continued. “After all, they’ve always claimed to be my subordinates.” The ballroom fell silent again. Freddy pushed up his glasses and laughed outright. “Kelly, if you’re going to make up a story, at least make it believable!” At that moment, a commotion came from the entrance. A large group of bodyguards cleared a path as they escorted three men inside, chatting among themselves. A refined male voice rang out. “What’s got you looking so pleased, Mr. Lane?” Everyone turned around. Once they saw who had arrived, they eagerly went forward to greet them. “Mr. Sterling, Mr. Farr, Mr. Watson...” Fabian stepped forward with a smile. “It’s nothing. We were just talking to someone we knew. She was being ridiculous and claiming that the three of you were her subordinates...” No one noticed that the three men paused for a second before abruptly quickening their pace. When they were only a few steps away from me, I turned around and smiled at them. “It’s been a while. Looks like you’ve done pretty well for yourselves since you got out!” Everyone looked as if they had seen a ghost when the three men suddenly let out anguished cries and rushed over to cling to my legs. “Boss, you finally made it out of the dungeon...”
