Synopsis

The night I got my positive pregnancy test, I waited eagerly for Alexander, the Alpha who had taken me in, hoping to finally confess my feelings.
Instead, he came home with Helena to spend the night.
Helena couldn't stand the smell of the durian pastries, so he threw away the entire dinner I had spent two hours preparing.
Alexander scooped Helena up in a bridal carry, taking her into the room to massage her twisted ankle.
Helena teased with a smug smile, "Who's the little girl? Looks like she has a huge crush on you."
Alexander didn't even look back. His voice was ice-cold.
"Just a kid. Ignore her."
I forced a bitter smile, ripped up the ultrasound report, and booked a one-way flight to the Amazon rainforest.
I was a rune researcher, completely devoted to ancient tomes and forgotten symbols.
Professor Mitchell always told me I had an incredible gift for deciphering runes, constantly inviting me to join his expedition team.
I turned him down every single time—all for Alexander.
Alexander was the Alpha of the pack my late father once belonged to. After my parents died in a tragic accident, he took me under his wing, shielding me from the world and giving me a home.
I was more than willing to live in his shadow, depending on him for everything, and loving every second of it.
Especially after that reckless night when I accidentally got pregnant with his child.
That made me even more determined to stay by his side.
Now, the illusion had shattered.
Alexander had another woman.
And he had never felt a thing for me.
Before booking my flight to the Amazon, I dialed Professor Mitchell's number for the first time in months.
His voice on the other end was a mix of shock and pure joy.
"Lily? Don't tell me you've finally changed your mind about joining the team?"
I nodded, my voice steady. "Yes, Professor. I've made up my mind. I'm taking a flight in three days to meet you guys in the Amazon."
Professor Mitchell was ecstatic, sounding as if he had just hit the jackpot.
"Oh, thank god you've come to your senses! I've been saying it all along—you're the most talented student I've ever taught. It would be a crime to waste that gift!"
As soon as I hung up, thunder rumbled outside, shaking the windows. Only then did I realize it was pouring.
Normally, whenever it rained like this, my first thought would be whether Alexander was getting soaked.
Even though I knew he had pack enforcers following his every step and wouldn't catch a single raindrop, I would still run over to his office just to bring him an umbrella.
Every time he saw me, his eyes would flash with surprise before his brows knitted into a tight frown.
"Didn't I tell you to stop coming here?"
Seeing him angry always sent a wave of panic through me, and I would apologize over and over.
I couldn't help but scoff at myself. Love really made people pathetic.
Right now, though, I just sat motionless on the couch.
Whether Alexander got soaked or not was no longer my problem.
Three days left.
In three days, I would be gone from this city forever.
When Alexander pushed the front door open, he was drenched from head to toe. Standing in the entryway, he stared at me with unreadable eyes.
"Lily, it's raining."
I stood up, poured myself a glass of water, and nodded faintly. "Yeah."
My mind was already racing with packing lists for the Amazon and what tools I'd need for the runic research.
After a while, I turned around, surprised to see Alexander hadn't moved. He was still standing there, staring at me with his brows furrowed deep.
"What's wrong?" I asked, confused.
Water was dripping from his soaked hair down his face, yet his eyes held a strange, hurt look.
"You didn't bring me an umbrella today."
A small laugh slipped out of me. I thought it was something serious.
"You said you didn't like me going there, so I stopped. Is there a problem with that?"
I looked at him, completely indifferent.
"No problem."
Alexander ground out the words coldly, his voice thick and congested.
He spun around, marched upstairs, and slammed his study door shut with a deafening bang.
He was furious.
And I genuinely didn't care anymore.
In the past, I walked on eggshells around him, doing everything I could to cheer him up when he was in a bad mood, only to be met with his disdain.
Alexander was the Alpha of the pack my father served before his death.
After my parents passed, he brought me to his mansion, provided for my food, clothes, and tuition, and taught me so much.
If I hadn't secretly fallen in love with him, none of this hidden, bitter heartbreak would exist.
I took a deep breath and went back to my room to sleep early. After losing the baby, I was still completely drained, both emotionally and physically.
I couldn't afford to break down now.
The abortion had left me heartbroken. It was only two or three months along.
When the healer showed me the tiny remains, tears had burned my eyes, spilling uncontrollably.
That night, someone had spiked Alexander's drink.
Out of his mind with whatever drug it was, he had pinned me to his bed, confusing me with someone else.
He had been rough. Relentless.
The scent of his Alpha pheromones had clung to the sheets and filled the entire room.
I admitted it—I fell apart, completely surrendered to him.
Afterward, Alexander remembered nothing of that night, and I didn't dare say a word.
Until.
I found out I was pregnant. The night I got the test results.
I told Mrs. Garcia to take the night off and cooked everything myself.
I laid out an entire table of his favorite dishes, waiting for Alexander to come home so I could finally tell him how I felt.
If he had feelings for me too, I would confess what happened that night, and we could be together.
If it was just my one-sided delusion, I would quietly get rid of the baby.
I waited until eleven at night. The food had gone completely cold before Alexander finally walked through the door.
He wasn't alone. Helena Hart was draped over him, their bodies pressed intimately against each other as he supported her weight.
Helena's personality was just like her bold red dress—loud, fierce, and impossible to ignore.
She saw right through me in an instant.
Wrapping her arms deliberately around Alexander's neck, she threw me a mocking smirk.
"Mr. Stone, seems like this little pet of yours has quite the crush on you!"
Alexander didn't even spare me a glance. His focus remained entirely on Helena's ankle, gently massaging the tender spot.
"Just a kid. Ignore her."
Every drop of blood in my veins turned to ice.
Turns out.
No matter how much I did, no matter how obvious I made it.
To him, I was never anything more than a child.
I had the pack healer terminate the pregnancy, rested for half a day, and called an Uber back to the mansion on my own.
I needed to pack my things.
Yet everything in that massive house had been bought by Alexander.
In the end, I only packed a few casual outfits I wore regularly, leaving everything else behind.
At eight in the evening, a knock sounded on my door.
"Lily."
I checked the time in surprise. He usually worked until past ten; why was he back so early today?
I dabbed a bit of blush on my cheeks in front of the mirror to hide how pale I looked, making sure he wouldn't notice anything off before opening the door.
To my surprise, Alexander was holding a gift.
It was a lifetime VIP black card to my absolute favorite restaurant.
"I'm sorry, Lily."

"Helena couldn't stand the smell of durian that night, which was why I tossed the dinner," Alexander said, his eyes earnest and sincere. "Mrs. Garcia told me later that you were the one who cooked it. Consider this VIP pass an apology for what happened."
I forced a faint smile and kept my hands by my side, making no move to take it. "No need."
After all, I was leaving this place in two days anyway.
Alexander's brows knitted together instantly. "Why not? Isn't that your favorite place?"
I bit my lower lip and shook my head again. "I really don't need it. You've taken such good care of me all these years, Alexander. I'm already more grateful than words can say."
The color slowly drained from his face.
He stared at me intently, as if searching for any crack in my expression, before his hands shot out, gripping my shoulders tightly. "Lily Parker, what are you trying to say?"
"What... what are you doing?"
I quietly twisted out of his grasp, shaking my head with a bitter laugh. "You're hurting me. I just saw how happy you and Helena are together, and I wanted to say thank you. Why are you getting so worked up over nothing...?"
I knew I was a coward.
Even now, I didn't dare say I was leaving.
I didn't have the guts to face a proper goodbye.
More than anything, I was terrified that if I told him, Alexander would only give me an indifferent nod, not even trying to make me stay.
That would break what was left of my heart.
Hearing my light, dismissive tone, Alexander visibly softened, letting his hands drop.
Yet his eyes lingered on my face. Just as I opened my mouth to make an excuse to go back to my room, he froze. "Lily... why are you so pale?"
I froze too.
I had put on blush, yet he still saw right through it.
Turns out, the hollow ache of losing a child was something no amount of makeup could hide.
I made up a random excuse to brush him off, retreating into my bedroom like a coward running from reality.
The next morning, instead of heading out to handle pack business like usual, Alexander sat in the downstairs living room drinking coffee.
Seeing me shuffle downstairs groggily in my pajamas, he raised an eyebrow. "Awake?"
I nodded quietly.
Alexander stood up, holding out a designer gown toward me. "Helena's hosting the Moonlight Gala tonight. Come with me."
He paused, staring straight into my eyes before adding, "I told her already. You're my family, too."I ended up at Helena's Moonlight Gala by Alexander's side.
Even though I was trying my hardest to let him go, being anywhere near Helena still made my stomach turn.
Still, faced with his request, and figuring it was my second-to-last day here anyway, I slipped into the dress and went along.
"Sit here for a bit," Alexander said, guiding me to a table before stepping away to mingle with pack elders and business associates.
I tucked myself into a quiet corner, sipping fruit juice while watching him and Helena together. They truly looked like the perfect match.
Back in San Francisco, they called him Alpha Stone for a reason. He ruled the city's shifter underworld with an iron fist.
Daughters from elite packs practically lined up to marry him, and rival Alphas constantly sought alliances with the Crimson Pack.
Next to them, I felt like nothing more than an ugly duckling. I had no right to dream of having him.
A long while later, Alexander came over and took the seat beside me. "Lily, what do you think of Helena?" he asked softly. "Do you think... you could see her as family?"
I frowned, not quite following.
Alexander offered a rare, faint smile and explained, "Helena did something huge for me. At a pack gathering a few months back... she helped me out. So, I have to marry her."
His gaze drifted casually back to Helena, watching her every graceful movement across the hall.
My eyes stung with a sharp, burning ache.
He must really love her.
Swallowing every drop of bitterness down my throat, I forced a smile. "She's great. You two look perfect together."
Alexander didn't answer. He just stared at me in total silence.
I lifted the hem of my dress and stood up, excusing myself to the restroom, terrified that if I stayed one second longer, my tears would betray me.
I had no idea Helena had been watching the entire exchange.
Toward the end of the gala, she specifically cornered me, handing me a glass of champagne to offer a toast.
"I shouldn't," I declined quietly. "He doesn't let me drink."
Helena burst into rich, mocking laughter, leaving me bewildered.
In the end, I felt cornered into taking the glass.
Three drinks in, my vision blurred and my mind spun out of control. By the time I forced my heavy eyelids open again, I was lying on an unfamiliar hotel bed.
And right beside me lay a shirtless man.
Panic surged through me. I scrambled to get up, but right at that moment, the door was kicked wide open.
I whipped around in terror, only to meet Alexander's bloodshot eyes.
Like an enraged beast, he tore into the room, lunging at the man beside me. Fists and kicks rained down until the sick crack of bone echoed through the room, shattering the man's leg.
Helena hurried in behind him, playing the part of the panicked peacemaker. "Alexander, calm down!"
Alexander shoved Helena aside without a second thought, his crimson eyes locking onto me with pure, murderous fury. "Lily Parker, how could you degrade yourself like this?!"
"If you liked someone, you could have just told me! I would have given you my blessing!"
"Why the hell did you have to run off to a hotel room with some random bastard?!"
I shook my head wildly, tears streaming down my face.
I had no memory of how I got there. All I remembered were those three drinks before everything went black... Warning bells screamed in my head, and I instinctively looked over at Helena.
A sinister, fleeting smirk touched her lips before she smoothly put on a facade of gentle concern. "Lily, this really wasn't right of you."
"Alexander raised you like his own kid. Even if you don't see him as family, you can't break his heart like this!"
*No. That's not what happened.*
*I didn't...*
Alexander was so blinded by rage that he couldn't hear a word of reason.
He had his enforcers drag me back to the mansion, throwing me into the basement cell.
Almost as if trying to punish me, he got completely wasted and brought Helena down to the basement to see me.
Right in front of my face, he pinned Helena against the cold stone wall, kissing her with reckless, desperate fury.
Helena let out coy, playful protests while leaning into his touch, her gaze catching mine with triumphant, venomous satisfaction.
My heart died right then and there.
This time, I had truly destroyed whatever bond Alexander and I had left.
I begged him to let me go several times, but he only turned his back on me with chilling indifference.
Three days slipped by in that dark cell.
Two hours left until my flight took off.
I couldn't miss it.
When Mrs. Garcia came down to deliver my meal, I broke down and begged her. Her heart softened, and she snuck the key to unlock the iron gate, letting me out.
"Don't worry, Miss Parker. I'll take the blame for whatever happens," she whispered softly. "He's just acting out of anger. Once he cools off, he'll forgive you."
I gave her a small nod, pulled my lightweight carry-on through the back door into the cool night air, and looked back at the sprawling estate one last time.
*Goodbye, Alexander.*Alexander came home completely hammered that night. When he stumbled down to the basement like he usually did to check on me, he found the cell empty.
He blinked, thinking his drunken eyes were playing tricks on him. "Lily Parker?"
He rubbed his eyes, threw the cell door open, and searched every corner of the basement, only to find nothing.
The reality finally hit him: I was gone.
"Tell me what the hell happened," Alexander growled, all traces of alcohol vanishing instantly behind a mask of icy authority.
He ordered the butler to assemble every pack member in the mansion, interrogating them one by one. "Who unlocked Miss Parker's cell?"
The butler's face went pale. The staff exchanged nervous glances, shaking their heads in unison.
Alexander let out a cruel scoff. "Refusing to speak, are we?"
Terrified of getting the others into trouble, Mrs. Garcia stepped forward. "Sir, it was me."
Alexander pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice low and dangerous. "Where did she go?"
Mrs. Garcia shook her head, pulling a sealed envelope from her apron and holding it out. "Sir, Miss Parker told me to tell you not to worry about her. She left this letter for you before she walked out."
Alexander's entire frame stiffened.
He stared at the paper in silence for what felt like eternity before his trembling fingers reached out to take it.
The envelope looked heavy, like it held a long, painful goodbye.
Alexander stared at it for minutes on end.
Yet only I knew there were merely two brief sentences inside:
*Goodbye, Alexander.*
*I can never repay you for everything you've given me over the years. I hope life treats you well.*
In the end, Alexander shredded the letter into tiny pieces, roared at everyone to get out, and slammed his fists into the imported glass coffee table, shattering it to dust.
Only Mrs. Garcia remained in the room.
Keeping her head down, she held out another crumpled piece of paper toward him.
It was an ultrasound report, torn to shreds and meticulously taped back together.
"Sir, you need to see this."
"Miss Parker didn't give this to me. I found it in the trash can, and I couldn't bear the thought of her suffering in silence, so... I taped it back together myself."
"Sir, take one look, and you'll understand everything."
Mrs. Garcia let out a quiet sigh.
Alexander drew a sharp breath, took the ragged paper, and froze the moment his eyes scanned the text.
The veins on his forehead bulged. "This is... Lily's pregnancy test?"
Mrs. Garcia nodded firmly.
Alexander swayed on his feet, reaching out to brace himself against the wall. He stared down at the dates on the page, his voice trembling when he spoke again. "Whose... whose baby is it?"
Mrs. Garcia blinked in disbelief, caught completely off guard by his question.
Before she could get a word out, Alexander let out a hollow, bitter laugh.
"I had no idea the girl could hide things so well. Seeing someone behind my back for that long, and I never noticed a damn thing."
Deep, suffocating despair washed over his eyes.
He dragged his feet through the shattered glass, collapsing heavily onto the sofa like a man who had aged ten years in a single second.
"No wonder she wanted to get away from me so badly."
"She planned this for a long time, didn't she?"
Hearing his twisted self-pity, Mrs. Garcia couldn't hold back her frustration. "Sir, how could you think that?!"
"Look closely at the timeline on that report! That was three months ago! Don't you remember anything at all?!"
Mrs. Garcia had practically spelled it out for him.
Yet Alexander still looked lost—until a sudden spark hit his mind, and his head snapped up!
"What did you say? Three months ago?!"
Mrs. Garcia nodded furiously.
Three months ago was the night of the pack summit, when someone had slipped a powerful drug into Alexander's drink, forcing him to rush back home out of his mind.
All he remembered was spending that reckless night with a woman.
Afterward, Helena had claimed she was the one in his bed.
And he had believed her.
Now, with Mrs. Garcia's words ringing in his ears, jagged fragments of memory crashed through his haze.
He remembered that night of absolute madness...
He remembered pinning the sweet, fragile girl he had sworn to protect right beneath him, taking her with an intensity that bordered on cruelty.
Alexander completely lost his composure.
He shot up from the sofa and bolted up the stairs toward his second-floor study, desperate to pull up the security footage from three months ago.

Once he cools off, he'll forgive you." I gave her a small nod, pulled my lightweight carry-on through the back door into the cool night air, and looked back at the sprawling estate one last time. *Goodbye, Alexander.*

Chapter 4

Alexander came home completely hammered that night. When he stumbled down to the basement like he usually did to check on me, he found the cell empty. He blinked, thinking his drunken eyes were playing tricks on him. "Lily Parker?" He rubbed his eyes, threw the cell door open, and searched every corner of the basement, only to find nothing. The reality finally hit him: I was gone. "Tell me what the hell happened," Alexander growled, all traces of alcohol vanishing instantly behind a mask of icy authority. He ordered the butler to assemble every pack member in the mansion, interrogating them one by one. "Who unlocked Miss Parker's cell?" The butler's face went pale. The staff exchanged nervous glances, shaking their heads in unison. Alexander let out a cruel scoff. "Refusing to speak, are we?" Terrified of getting the others into trouble, Mrs. Garcia stepped forward. "Sir, it was me." Alexander pinched the bridge of his nose, his voice low and dangerous. "Where did she go?" Mrs. Garcia shook her head, pulling a sealed envelope from her apron and holding it out. "Sir, Miss Parker told me to tell you not to worry about her. She left this letter for you before she walked out." Alexander's entire frame stiffened. He stared at the paper in silence for what felt like eternity before his trembling fingers reached out to take it. The envelope looked heavy, like it held a long, painful goodbye. Alexander stared at it for minutes on end. Yet only I knew there were merely two brief sentences inside: *Goodbye, Alexander.* *I can never repay you for everything you've given me over the years. I hope life treats you well.* In the end, Alexander shredded the letter into tiny pieces, roared at everyone to get out, and slammed his fists into the imported glass coffee table, shattering it to dust. Only Mrs. Garcia remained in the room. Keeping her head down, she held out another crumpled piece of paper toward him. It was an ultrasound report, torn to shreds and meticulously taped back together. "Sir, you need to see this." "Miss Parker didn't give this to me. I found it in the trash can, and I couldn't bear the thought of her suffering in silence, so... I taped it back together myself." "Sir, take one look, and you'll understand everything." Mrs. Garcia let out a quiet sigh. Alexander drew a sharp breath, took the ragged paper, and froze the moment his eyes scanned the text. The veins on his forehead bulged. "This is... Lily's pregnancy test?" Mrs. Garcia nodded firmly. Alexander swayed on his feet, reaching out to brace himself against the wall. He stared down at the dates on the page, his voice trembling when he spoke again. "Whose... whose baby is it?" Mrs. Garcia blinked in disbelief, caught completely off guard by his question. Before she could get a word out, Alexander let out a hollow, bitter laugh. "I had no idea the girl could hide things so well. Seeing someone behind my back for that long, and I never noticed a damn thing." Deep, suffocating despair washed over his eyes. He dragged his feet through the shattered glass, collapsing heavily onto the sofa like a man who had aged ten years in a single second. "No wonder she wanted to get away from me so badly." "She planned this for a long time, didn't she?" Hearing his twisted self-pity, Mrs. Garcia couldn't hold back her frustration. "Sir, how could you think that?!" "Look closely at the timeline on that report! That was three months ago! Don't you remember anything at all?!" Mrs. Garcia had practically spelled it out for him. Yet Alexander still looked lost—until a sudden spark hit his mind, and his head snapped up! "What did you say? Three months ago?!" Mrs.
